Clayton Kershaw Dodgers deal

Dodgers lifer Clayton Kershaw appears headed back to Los Angeles on a one-year deal, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand on Friday. The Dodgers have not confirmed the deal, which is pending the completion of a physical, according to Feinsand.

As Kershaw heads toward his 34th birthday on March 19, his biggest question mark is health. He spent more than two months on the injured list with left elbow inflammation, returned in mid-September and then exited his fourth start back, on Oct. 1, with left forearm discomfort that ultimately kept him sidelined for the Dodgersā€™ postseason run.Ā 

While Kershaw has said he expects to be ready for Spring Training, this also was far from his first health setback, as he has dealt with shoulder and back issues at different points over the past eight seasons. After throwing a whopping 232 2/3 regular-season innings in 2015, the lefty has averaged 25 starts and 157 innings across the past five full seasons (excluding 2020).Ā
