Daniel Norris, Robert Gsellman among wave of pitching moves

Cubs quietly, significantly bolstering pitching depth originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

Another day, another flurry of Cubs pitching acquisitions.

With the reported agreement with free agent reliever Robert Gsellman, the Cubs have signed five pitchers to big-league deals since Monday, in addition to recently adding two non-roster invitees who are familiar names.

ESPN’s Jesse Rogers reported Thursday the Cubs have agreed to one-year, big-league deals with Gsellman and Daniel Norris.

The Cubs signed Chris Martin, Steven Brault and David Robertson to one-year deals earlier this week.

Norris, 28, holds a 4.65 ERA in eight big-league seasons, making 167 appearances (83 starts). The lefty spent 2021 with the Tigers and Brewers (6.16 ERA in 56 relief appearances).

Gsellman, 28, spent last season with the Mets (3.77 ERA in 17 appearances/one start). In six seasons, he’s made 176 appearances (34 starts), posting a 4.59 ERA.

He’s already at Cubs camp.
