Domingo Germán injury: Yankees place starter on 60-day injured list as need for rotation help intensifies

The New York Yankees officially announced the signing of first baseman Anthony Rizzo on Thursday, meaning they had to add him to the 40-player roster. The corresponding move was of some significance, as the Yankees placed right-handed starter Domingo Germán on the 60-day injured list because of shoulder soreness.

Germán, 29, appeared in 22 games and made 18 starts last season. He amassed a 4.58 ERA (94 ERA+) and a 3.63 strikeout-to-walk ratio along the way. Germán had previously not appeared in the majors since September of 2019 after he was suspended for 81 games after violating Major League Baseball’s policy against domestic violence. 

With Germán now sidelined for an unknown length of time, the Yankees projected rotation now features Gerrit Cole, Jordan Montgomery, Luis Severino, Jameson Taillon, and Nestor Cortes, who surprisingly posted a 2.90 ERA in 93 innings last season. That may not remain their…
