Royals injuries and roster moves

Keep track of the Royals’ recent transactions and injury updates throughout the season.

March 16: RHP Zack Greinke signed to one-year deal
The Royals brought back one of the best pitchers in their history and one of the longest-tenured players in the game right now on a one-year deal worth $13 million, with $2 million in performance bonuses. And with one signing, the Royals stabilized what would have been a very young rotation while bringing back a sentimental piece of the organization’s history. The Royals drafted Greinke No. 6 overall in 2002, he made his debut as a 20-year-old phenom in ’04, and he spent the first seven seasons of his career in Kansas City, where he won the ’09 AL Cy Young Award. In his 18-year career, Greinke is 219-132 with a 3.41 ERA and 2,809 strikeouts. He could be the next to join the 3,000-strikeout club as the active pitcher who’s closest to reaching the milestone. — Anne Rogers
