Vols victorious against Notre Dame, ties Knoxville Super Regional

After losing game No. 1 of the Knoxville Super Regional Friday, top-seeded Tennessee bounced back to even the best-of-three series Saturday.

The Volunteers (57-8) defeated Notre Dame (39-16), 12-4 before an announced attendance of 4,588 at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Tennessee tallied the first run of the game in the top of the first inning on an RBI double by Trey Lipscomb.

The Vols then hit four home runs in the fifth inning to take an 8-0 lead.

Tennessee batted around and first baseman Luc Lipcius hit two home runs in the frame.

Jordan Beck hit a three-run home run and Evan Russell hit a solo home run to lead 9-0.

Lipcius went 3-for-4 with two home runs, four RBIs and three runs against the Fighting Irish in game No. 2.

Notre Dame scored one run in the fifth inning and added another in the sixth inning to pull to within, 9-2.

The Vols recorded two runs in the eighth inning as Lipcius scored when Seth Stephenson reached on an error. Jorel Ortega hit an RBI double.

Notre Dame scored two runs in the eighth inning on a home run by Jack Zyska, who had four hits and one stolen base.

Chase Dollander (10-0) pitched seven innings. He gave up two runs and five hits, while recording five strikeouts.

Mark McLaughlin pitched two innings. He surrendered two runs, two hits and one walk, while striking out three.
