Led by slugger Pete Alonso, who leads the National League with 22 home runs, the Mets have spent the majority of the 2022 season in first place, despite injuries to their top two starters, Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom. The Marlins have enjoyed breakout performances by emerging ace Sandy Alcantara and electric young infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr., as they try to work their way into postseason contention.
Play-by-play announcer Jason Benetti will be joined by analysts Cliff Floyd, who played for both the Mets and Marlins during his standout career, and longtime Marlins analyst Tommy Hutton.
MLB Sunday Leadoff on Peacock debuted on May 8, beginning an 18-week schedule of exclusive MLB contests every Sunday morning. Each week, Benetti will be joined in the booth by local analysts covering the participating teams.
NBC Sports’ Ahmed Fareed hosts the MLB Sunday Leadoff pre- and postgame shows each week, and also serves as the in-game reporter. This Sunday, Fareed is joined by former Marlins star Gaby Sanchez, currently an analyst on Bally Sports Florida, and Rob Friedman, aka PitchingNinja on Twitter (@PitchingNinja), who will provide pregame pitching breakdowns.
The MLB Sunday Leadoff game each week is the only game scheduled until 1:30 p.m. ET, when the rest of the day’s action will begin. The start time for each MLB Sunday Leadoff game is noon ET for the remainder of the games through Sept. 4.
