Ronald Acuña Jr. will rejoin Braves after injury

PHILADELPHIA — Ronald Acuña Jr. will rejoin the Braves in Philadelphia on Thursday, but there is a chance the outfielder will not return to Atlanta’s lineup until Friday.

Acuña has spent the past few days in Atlanta, receiving treatment on his bruised left foot. The Braves were pleased to see how well the foot had improved when the two-time All-Star returned to Truist Park on Wednesday.

“I don’t know if he’ll be available tomorrow, but [the medical staff] said he was significantly better today,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said before Wednesday night’s game against the Phillies.

Acuña fouled a pitch off his left foot in the third inning of Saturday night’s game against the Dodgers and exited in the eighth inning.  He used a medical scooter because it was too painful to put pressure on the foot on Sunday. But X-rays and an MRI exam showed no fracture.

“It was just going to be a matter of time before he could put weight on his foot,” Snitker said. “With a bruise, it just takes a while.”
