Watch Giants’ Doval baffle Tigers with ridiculous slider originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
Camilo Doval is a bad, bad man.
When fellow Giants reliever Dominic Leone managed to get just two outs in the eighth inning and was yanked with the bases loaded and San Francisco clinging to a one-run lead, Doval stepped in and came up clutch.
And all he did was unleash one of the most impressive pitches of the 2022 season to get the Giants out of the jam.
The two-strike, 88 mph slider completely fooled Jonathan Schoop, who struck out to end the inning. Doval then closed out the game in the ninth inning, facing just three batters to secure his first career four-out save and the Giants’ 40th win of the season.
Doval’s slider has been mostly untouchable this season. He’s thrown it 290 times, per Statcast, and opponents are batting just .134 against it. The pitch has produced 36 of Doval’s 40 strikeouts this season.
