MEJIA VU: Rainiers Walk off Again in Extras

August 3, 2022 – Pacific Coast League (PCL)Tacoma Rainiers News Release

West Sacramento, CA – The Tacoma Rainiers (44-56) had a three-game win streak snapped on Wednesday afternoon, when the Sacramento River Cats (43-58) eked out a 1-0 win in two hours and nine minutes, squaring the series at a game apiece. Tacoma dropped to 8-15 in day games this season (first pitch before 5:35 local time).

Rainiers RHP Konner Wade tossed five scoreless innings without a walk, allowing five hits. Over 16.0 IP against Sacramento this season, Wade has surrendered only 10 hits and a single earned run, with 10 strikeouts and just one walk. River Cats RHP Wei-Chieh Huang struck out five in four innings of work (1 H, 1 BB).

Sacramento broke the scoreless tie in the seventh when Isan Diaz and Austin Dean each led off with singles, Diaz eventually scoring on a sac fly from former Rainier Wyatt Mathisen.

Shelby Miller earned his second save with a scoreless ninth inning, working around a leadoff walk to Mitch Haniger (MLB rehab). It was Tacoma’s first 1-0 game since an April 9 defeat of Salt Lake at home earlier this year, in the fifth game of the season and the second game of a doubleheader.

The midpoint of this weeklong series will be Thursday’s game at Sutter Health Park, a 6:45 p.m. PT first pitch. RHP Chris Mazza will start for Tacoma, against Sacramento RHP Norwith Gudino.
