Enmanuel Valdez did Chaim Bloom a solid Wednesday.

The Boston Red Sox‘ chief baseball officer has received mixed reviews for his activity ahead of the MLB trade deadline, which included dealing starting catcher Christian Vazquez to the Houston Astros for two little-known prospects.

Tomase: Red Sox in dreaded no man’s land after uninspiring deadline

Well, one of those little-known prospects is Valdez — who made quite the first impression in his debut for Triple-A Worcester Red Sox.

Here’s Valdez blasting an opposite-field home run Wednesday in the WooSox’ game against the Durham Bulls at Polar Park:

That’s some impressive power from Valdez, who was Houston’s 12th-ranked prospect at the midseason point, per Baseball America.

The 23-year-old infielder boasts solid power; he tallied 11 home runs and 45 RBIs in just 44 games for the Astros’ Double-A affiliate this season before being called up to Triple-A and tacking on 10 homers and 32 RBIs over 38 games for the Sugar Land Space Cowboys.

“When you go under the hood, there’s a lot of things he does that make him a very complete hitter,” Bloom said Tuesday night of Valdez. “He makes contact. He manages at-bats. He drives the ball. He covers all different pitch types. He covers the strike zone really well. And he’s really come on this year, making nice progress offensively.”

One game is much too small of a sample size to determine if Valdez — or the second prospect in the Vazquez deal, outfielder Wilyer Abreu — can eventually make an impact at the major league level. And the Red Sox still may regret trading away Vazquez, who was well-liked in Boston’s clubhouse and the team’s longest-tenured player.

But if Red Sox fans wanted a brief moment of optimism, Valdez provided it Wednesday afternoon.
