CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Former Virginia standouts Shawn Moore and Ryan Zimmerman will be inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame on its 50th induction weekend April 21-22, 2023 in Virginia Beach. The legendary Cavalier duo is among nine honorees selected by the Hall of Fame’s Board of Directors and Honors Court Committee, features athletes, coaches, and contributors that have enjoyed success at all levels of sport.
2023 Induction events will include a Sponsor Welcome Reception on Friday, April 21, Breakfast with Champions the morning of Saturday, April 22, and the VIP Reception & Induction Ceremony later that evening. Both the Breakfast of Champions and VIP Reception and Induction Ceremony will take place at the Westin Hotel in Virginia Beach. Tickets can be purchased on vasportshof.com.

Shawn Moore (1987-90)
In his three seasons as UVA’s signal caller, Moore set the standard for Cavalier quarterbacks. He led UVA to two New Year’s Day Bowl appearances and a share of the school’s first-ever ACC championship. Moore finished his career in 1990 holding 41 school, ACC, and NCAA individual records. His 83 total touchdowns (55 pass, 28 rush) still stands as a school record to this day. He led Virginia to the USF&G Sugar Bowl as well as a No. 1 ranking in the nation (Associated Press) for three consecutive weeks.
Moore was the first ACC quarterback to lead the nation in passing efficiency (160.7) in 1990 while completing 144 of 241 passes for 2,262 yards and 21 touchdowns. He finished fourth in balloting for the 1990 Heisman Trophy. As a senior he was a first-team All-American and was named the ACC Player of the Year. Moore’s number 12 is one of six football numbers retired at UVA.
