Meet the Gators: Clete Hartzog


The hard-throwing righty earned ACCC South Division Pitcher of the Year honors at Wallace CC-Dothan in 2022 after working to a 10-3 record with 98 strikeouts across 74 frames.


Taking the ball in the ninth inning to close out the 2022 Meet the Gators series is transfer right-handed pitcher Clete Hartzog of Panama City, Fla. Coming to Florida from Wallace Community College-Dothan, Hartzog will don No. 26 in Orange & Blue.
 
Hartzog has already seen action on the mound in a Gators uniform. He appeared in each of Florida’s fall exhibition games against Georgia and Stetson, striking out three batters over 1 2/3 innings of relief.
 
The hard-throwing righty is coming off a stellar season at Wallace CC-Dothan, having earned ACCC South Division Pitcher of the Year honors after working to a 10-3 record with 98 punchouts across 74 frames – good for 11.9 strikeouts per nine innings. He concluded his Governors tenure with a 17-7 record in 31 career appearances.
 
Flashing back to his prep days, Hartzog was a three-time letterwinner in baseball under head Coach Jon Hudson at A. Crawford Mosley High School. As a junior, he logged a 2.76 ERA with a .214 batting average against and 37 strikeouts in 25 1/3 frames, reflecting a dominant 13.1 K/9. In 2019, Hartzog helped lead Mosley to an appearance in the state semifinals.
 
From 2017-20, Hartzog collected five All-Tournament Team accolades at Perfect Game events. He also garnered a pair of PG Preseason All-Region nods.
 
As the son of Cullen and Laura Hartzog, Clete has two sisters, Ashlee and Madison. He is majoring in sport management at the University of Florida.
