6 Tigers make Perfect Game Top 100 True Freshmen List

Tigers learn NCAA Tournament regional destination

Jay Johnson has signed back-to-back No. 1 recruiting classes as he enters his second season as the skipper on the Bayou. Six current freshmen were recently named to Perfect Game’s Top 100 Freshman list.

A few were selected in the MLB draft but have decided to forgo that selection to go to LSU and try to bring a national championship to the best baseball fans in the country. Jaden Noot, Paxton Kling, Brady Neal, Gavin Guidry, Chase Shores and Jared Jones were all named to the Top 100 list.

Two right-handed pitchers, two catchers, an outfielder, and an infielder. All of whom were ranked very highly in their respective position. The 2023 season starts Feb. 17 against Western Michigan.

Here’s a rundown of each player who made the list.

Kling was ranked as the No. 6 overall prospect in the 2022 class by Perfect Game and the No. 2 player from the state of Pennsylvania. Kling was also projected to be drafted in the 2022 MLB draft, but he withdrew his name after Day 1.

Brady Neal was ranked as the No. 2 catcher nationally and the No. 1 catcher in Florida by Perfect Game. He was drafted in the 17th round of the MLB Draft by the Brewers but chose to come to LSU instead.

Guidry was the No. 1 ranked player in Louisiana and the No. 13 shortstop in the country by Perfect Game. Guidry will fill the hole in the middle of the infield left by Cade Doughty.

Jared Jones was ranked as the No. 4 overall catcher, the No. 47 overall prospect in the class of 2022, and the No. 1 catcher in the state of Georgia by Perfect Game. Jones is listed as a catcher and a first baseman on the official roster.
